Lots of wood!

I have acquired too much! In the past couple months my grandfather brought me a piece of cedar crotch, my mother in law got me birch from Canada and I've taken silver leaf maple, black oak, and red oak from here locally, that being Arkansas. I've done some turning too. A lidded box, a few pens, a couple bowls, and a set of coasters are getting ready to become Christmas presents. I'd show pictures, but I'm doing this post from my iPad and it doesn't like Google's interface very much. Next time I'll try it from my computer.

Wood? What?

Yep, that's my new hobby. Turning in particular. What's the motivation? None. I just have an interest. My wife and family have been super supportive, picking up pieces of wood for me or getting me info on sources. I generally have more wood to turn that time to turn it, but that can be attributed to engineering school, not motivation. Like today, I picked up a piece of root from a construction site on campus (still figuring out what the dynamics of root are and how they will turn) and I probably won't get to turning anytime soon. Summer classes really suck the life out of hobbies. Which reminds me...I really should be doing homework, not writing in my blog.

First bowl a few months ago. Unknown oak from a friend's stump in backyard....poly finish...given to my wife.
